Plitvice Lakes National Park – Croatia
Date: 10/5/2009 1:45:06 AM Category: General

When you visit Plitvice (Pleet-veet-seh) Lakes National Park you will understand why it is one of Croatia's biggest tourist attractions as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  I visited in the summertime when the forests were lush and green, but apparently the winter is spectacular also.  Plitvice also offers sixteen gorgeous turquoise lakes that feed numerous waterfalls and bubbling streams as well natural caves formed out of limestone and travertine.  As you navigate through the parks wooden walkways and footbridges you’ll fall in love with its natural beauty as you get up close and personal with its many falls and stunning vistas.  Additionally, there are several free shuttles that drive around the lakes as well as a boat which crosses the park’s largest lake, Jezero Kozjak every hour.  Lastly, ensure you catch a glimpse of the most famous waterfall, Veliki Slap, which is visible from the four lower lakes.
