Columbia River Gorge Region – Oregon
Date: 9/22/2009 5:52:13 AM Category: Oregon

I visited the Columbia River Gorge region on the Oregon side of the Columbia River from Portland east to Hood River via the Old Oregon Trail Highway. The region boasts a beautiful collection of waterfalls; however, Multnomah Falls is by far my favorite and worth the short climb toward the top or at least to the viewing bridge.  I’m not too fearful of heights, but my knees may have knocked a time or two (an FYI for those travelers who aren’t fans of heights).

I also recommend exiting from I-84 at Exit 22 near Corbett and driving up to Crown Point and Vista House.  You can get a spectacular view of the area and of the Columbia River from the cliff’s edge.  Vista House, which is an octagonal building with a copper dome, and beautiful stained glass, is also a sight to see.  They have a museum, gift shop and historical/geological displays here as well.
