Madrid, New Mexico
Date: 7/14/2009 2:27:16 AM Category: New Mexico

An old coal mining town turned ghost town turned art colony just south of Santa Fe in the Ortiz Mountains. Madrid, New Mexico is enchanting and an “off the beaten path” kind of place located on the historic Turquoise Trail between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Spend the day visiting the galleries and shops that line its main street. Stop by the Mine Shaft Tavern for a pretty memorable Mine Shaft Burger or a real Buffalo Burger. Interestingly, the Disney movie Wild Hogs (2007) was filmed in Madrid, NM.

Little Tip: Madrid is not pronounced like the Spanish city, rather Mahhdrid.
